so... here i am sitting around at home during school hours, running a fever... and the cause of it? well, last saturday was the founders award presentation ceremony. much as i hate to say it, it didnt turn out as fun as i expected. i know not of a single root cause that made the event turn sour, but what's most important is that no person i know is to be blamed. lets just say... the organisation left something to be desired. here's the day in the fullness of its relevant events.
in the morning, it was a mad rush for me to get out of the house. i had to pack my bag, making sure everything i needed was inside. and considering the countless parts the bb uniform has, that takes a LOT of time! not to mention i wasted more than half an hour turning my drawers inside out, searching for my crossbelt which is an important part of the bb uniform. but since a certain SOMEONE had borrowed it (lolxt XD), i was thrown into a fruitless quest for it, making frantic calls to possible candidates that could have borrowed my crossbelt. just before calling up shane to borrow his, i found out that martin had my crossbelt and hadnt returned it since :P so with my crossbelt finally located (including a huge screwup with my smses), i rushed to the bus stop and went to school.
later, we'd gathered for a time of worship and prayer with mr loke, which ended up running over time by quite a fair bit. when that was over, we were thrown into a mad rush changing into our uniform, putting on the individual cumbersome and miniscule uniform parts. chaos reigned within that window of time in the admin room, where
1. blu-tack was used to stick velcro to cloth,
2. the pack of blu-tack went missing,
3. joshua, martin and i started shouting around and tossing up bags and clothes in search of the blu-tack,
4. we had to put on our anklets and walk around the admin room tottering like old women so that the pants would remain tucked in the anklets,
5. our pants got untucked from the anklets ANYWAY,
6. we got chided by the cooc for being late for the chartered bus even though it wasnt our fault for our time being cut short...
7. people attempted and failed to help others put on anklets after wearing gloves,
8. i couldnt find my senior proficiency award badge and ensued a search for the smallish metal object, shouting for it ever so often,
9. i finally found it next to the rubbish bin...
10. joshua finally found the blu-tack on a chair,
11. we had to rush off to the bus without repinning our badges on our chevron.
from there, we all had to run from the admin room to the bus, all while trying to ensure that our pants didnt come out from our anklets again, but most of us to no avail. even on the bus, we were frantically pinning on our badges on our chevrons, readjusting our uniform to our satisfaction, while sheng yung even polished on the bus, polluting the environment with disgusting polishing fumes, while eugene made things worse with the spraying of his, "cheap perfume" as ms raj calls it, or rather deo :P with scents battling for dominance in the bus, we finally arrived at habourfront centre, where we still had to walk a considerable distance all the way to the restaurant.
during this whole time, i had been irritably stuffing my pants into my anklets, though every step i took seemed to make it come out again, no matter what way i walked. it wasnt long before the skin near my fingernails began to tear from rubbing against the anklets so many times, and i only realised it when i saw red marks appearing on my anklets... my fingers stung, and i officially gave up on the anklets. even while slipping my hands into my gloves, the open wounds stung with ferocity, and i finally realised that i had got a glove that couldnt buckle close. what's more, the extras were all left in school. could they day get any worse? yes it could.
reaching the restaurant, we falled in with the other founders, and waited an inifinitely long time for something to happen. as it turns out, they were doing a general check of our uniforms one by one. wow, such an efficient use of time eh! and having not drunk and single drop of water since the morning, i was dehydrated and felt giddy. haiz, why always happen to me XD so i ended up finishing david's HUGE bottle of water... whoopsies XD
shortly after, they made us all take our temperature, and naturally the majority of the people didnt bring it. aww, our dp would be so disappointed if she knew that we had all forgot the IMPORTANT instrument eh! well obviously we didnt really bother taking our temperature, while asher was just under the trigger tempterature with 37.6 degrees :D so we all just went into the restaurant.
in the restaurant, 5 full tables were allocated to our company, and since we didn't know where the parents were sitting, we sorta just plonked ourselves together in 2 of the tables. well, what else to do when parents arent here yet? we cant exactly be expected to sit with gaps in between us just to make room for parents later haha XD when the parents and teachers and officers finally started streaming in however, the problems arising were very evident. the first few parents that came in sat with gaps in between them, without anyone to break the ice between them while they sat in stoney silence. then jeremy eu appeared out of nowhere and a seat had to be found for him too.
so in the short amount of time between the guest arriving and the commencement of the ceremony, major works into the seating arrangement were in progress. some of us were asked to sit with the godsisters of our friends, while the movement of the guys was constantly in motion as new sets of relatives continued streaming in. displacement reactions were frequent and of large scales, and it didnt help matters at all when it seemed that one close friend was moving away from me... but obviously it was just to accomodate the ever changing group of guests present. and yet another close friend was asked to move, but at least he refused for my sake, so he could keep my company. awww, so swits (:
while this epic game of musical chairs was taking place, the ceremony commenced as the guest of honour was allowed to enter, and the awards started to be given out. as luck would have it, the order we went out was by name, so my name fell at the back thanks to my yue, keeping me away from all my good friends near the middle of the pack. as a result, i was left out of many of the pictures while waiting in the queue... haiz. it was so miserable and lonely being left out XP
then after the award was presented to all of us, we had a phototaking session in a room at the back. as ben liau had gone to the toilet, i went to call him out so that he wouldnt be left out of the photos, rushing as fast as we could to the back room. due to the greater force exerting on the badge when running, the forces of cohesion between the blu tack and the cloth of my full uniform were broken, causing the heavy broze badge to drop with a thud on the carpet floor of the restaurant amidst the stream of people walking from their tables to join the queue. stopping dead in my tracks immediately, it was apparent that the badge had gone just like that. after doing a quick scan of the immediate vicinity, it was clear that the badge was nowhere to be found and had probably been kicked around by the forest of boots. so i resolved to find it later, and ran for the photo taking, where we were hoarded by loads of cameras, as if we were encountering the paparazzi.
after taking smaller group shots with friends, the nice parents and some bb boys aided me in a search for my founders badge, and many of the parents really got panicky over it :S feel so bad, getting adults all panicky cos of me XP well needless to say the search was to no avail, but when david, shaun and ryan approached an officer to help, the badge was immediately found next to the loudspeakers, tucked away in a nice corner of the stage haha. it was really sweet to know that so many people had done everything they could to help find the badge for me (:
alas, that was the last of the misfortune that befell me that night. however, due to a nice flu bug which decided to spread itself around during the entire day that we'd spent together, i'm SICK! ah well, all for a few days of school... at least i can be thankful i dont have to wait for an hour to see my family doctor hehehe :P
sleep.
